LET us send a parcel to your loved one.

That's our new plea to all those of you whose partners and children are still serving in the Gulf.

Today we want to know your child or partner's full service address so that we can send some of the many parcels that have been sent to us, out to the Gulf more quickly.

Such has been the enormous success of our Gifts for the Gulf campaign that we have simply been inundated with toiletries, food products and morale-boosting treats for our men and women in Iraq.

Our collection points – at Asda and here in our Lower Brook Street office – are constantly full, and we have had to enlist extra military mums to help us parcel the goods and send them on.

In the second of our Loved Ones meeting at the Corn Exchange in Ipswich – held on Wednesday – Pamela Bannister, who has been helping the Star to co-ordinate its campaign, urged service families to get in touch.

"We've just got so many parcels and we want to send them out to specific serving men and women from Suffolk," she said.

"To do that, we would need to know their full forces address so that we can then get a gift-box to them."

She added: "I've got two sons out in the Gulf and I know how grateful they are for all the gifts they receive.

"It's a big boost to them and because of the enormous generosity we've seen from Suffolk people, it's possible for us to send the boxes to even more men and women than we had ever expected."

Sandra Goodchild, whose son Carl is serving in the Gulf, has also been drafted in to parcel up the goods.

"The generosity is just amazing," she said. "Both Pamela and I are spending hours and hours boxing up the things that people have dropped off at Asda – and it keeps coming.

"It would be great to get the names and addresses of a few more servicemen and women who would appreciate a gift."

Meanwhile, a collection of items organised by Felixstowe's Ian Healey has also seen a massive response from well-wishers.

In total, some 72 parcels have been put together and £1,100 raised in donations – which will now be put to a charity.

"I'm amazed by the response," said Ian. "It really has been far greater than we had ever anticipated and I would like to thank everyone who gave so generously."
