THE M1 northbound is closed in Northamptonshire after a major accident involving six HGV lorries.
The crash, which happened at 2.18pm on the junction 19 link road with the M6, has seen the road closed between junctions 18 and 19.
One person has died in the smash and another is seriously injured. No details are available on the number of casualties.
Motorists are being warned of serious delays and there are large tailbacks in the area already. Diversions are in place.
The southbound carriageway is open but will be sporadically closed to allow the air ambulance to land and for emergency services access.
The road is expected to remain closed until 8.30pm.
