FLASH floods and hail storms swept across Suffolk today , causing chaos on the county's roads.

Cars were brought to a standstill on the A12 and slowed traffic elsewhere as drivers struggled to see passed the large hail stones, which fell during evening rush hour.

The A12 slip road underpass at Capel St Mary was flooded by three foot of water – cutting the village off from the main road at about 5pm.

Cars in the area had earlier been forced to stop after hail stones reduced visibility.

Flood water also caused a minibus to get stuck in a residential area of Ipswich. Police were called after the vehicle got stranded in Birkfield Drive at about 5pm.

Sunshine and scattered showers are expected to continue tomorrow with the temperature dropping to about 22C.
