POLICE cordoned off an area around Ipswich Rugby Football Club today after an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted.

The woman was walking home from the town centre towards the Barclays Bank on Woodbridge Road at about 2am when two men in a car pulled up alongside her and offered her a lift.

Anne-Marie Breach, spokesman for Suffolk police, said: "She accepted and got into the car. Once inside the vehicle one of the men threatened her and told her to do as she was told.

"A short time later the car stopped in Humber Doucy Lane, near the entrance to club, and the two men told her to get out of the vehicle.

"The three walked towards the car park of the Rugby Club where the 18-year-old was sexually assaulted.

"The victim has been left very traumatised following the incident and will be further interviewed by police later today."

The woman then managed to fight off the men and ran off towards houses on Humber Doucy Lane. She managed to alert a resident who contacted police about 2.20am.

The men are both described as white and of large build. One is thought to be aged in his late 20s-30s, with dark hair.

Police are asking anyone who may have information to call Ipswich CID on 01473 613500.
