DETECTIVES have launched a manhunt after a woman reported that she had been the victim of a sex attack in Martlesham today.

The woman, who is said to be very distressed, was due to be interviewed about the traumatic assault by specially trained officers later in the day.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said he had few specific details of the attack due to the victim being so upset.

However it is understood the woman was set upon by her assailant this morning in a wooded area near the village.

Until detectives are able to speak to the woman more fully they are unable to give a description of her attacker, the specific location of the incident or whether he was brandishing any weapons.

Officers appealed for witnesses who may have seen something out of the ordinary today to come forward.

"Anyone who saw anything untowards or suspicious in the Martlesham area should telephone Suffolk Police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111," said Simon Stevens, a police spokesman.
