THREE registered sex offenders are on the run in Suffolk, it has been revealed.

Suffolk Constabulary has confirmed it is currently looking for three sex offenders whose “whereabouts are unknown”.

The force has refused to disclose who they are and how serious a threat they are to the public. But they say every effort is being made to trace them.

The sex offenders register contains the details of anyone convicted, cautioned or released from prison for sexual offences against children or adults since September 1997.

All convicted sex offenders must register with the police within three days of their conviction or release from prison. Sex offenders must also inform the police within three days if they change their name or address and disclose if they are spending seven days or more away from their home.

A Suffolk police spokesman said: “Public protection remains of the highest priority for Suffolk Constabulary. A dedicated team of nine officers monitor sex offenders and, in turn, minimise the risk to members of the public. “Fortunately in Suffolk, compliance with sex offender registration remains high.

“However, when a sex offender fails to comply with notification requirements or is otherwise reported missing, every effort is made to trace their whereabouts. All missing sex offenders are risk-assessed regarding the danger they may pose to members of the public.”
