AN IPSWICH man will be doing his bit for charity tomorrow by having his hair and beard shaved off.

While most of us are wrapping up to deal with the cold winter weather, Mick Haggar will be shedding some serious hair in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Mick, 55, of Harrows Close, said that he decided to do the daring deed after his wife was saved with the help of paramedics.

Mick will loose his hair and beard on the Cornhill at 11am. The trimming and clipping will be performed by David Craigie, Donna Symonds and Heidi Coshall from Suffok College.

Andrew Caldecott, Suffolk's Co-ordinator for the East Anglian Air Ambulance said: "Mick came to us and offered his services to us in order to raise some money. If anyone else wants to do something similar, they can – we are always looking for volunteers".

As well as Mick and his shaving experience, there will be a collection on the Cornhill during his encounter with the blades.

After the headshave, Mick, who works for Notcutts in Woodbridge, will don his second hat – literally.

He said: "I am a turnstile operator at Portman Road for Ipswich matches and at the Spurs game, the club is presenting me with a bobble hat to keep me warm."

Mick, who has had a beard for ten years said that he will grow his hair back, but won't be exactly itching to have a beard again.

He said: "The wife doesn't really like it."

Mick had already raised £470 for the Air Ambulance and it is hoped that with the collection on Saturday this figure will exceed £1,000.
