BRAVE jewellery shop staff tackled two sledgehammer wielding raiders, forcing them out of the premises before smashing the window of their getaway car with a chair.
Horrified customers watched as the masked raiders walked into Cox and Son Jewellers in Great Yarmouth at around 3.20pm yesterday, smashing glass display cabinets and grabbing watches.
But the staff challenged the pair who were wearing white hooded overalls forcing them out of the shop and causing one of them to drop their sledgehammer.
The robbers then got into a red and grey Rover 214 where their getaway driver was waiting but before they could make off, the staff picked up a chair and smashed the passenger window.
The car believed to have been involved was later found abandoned at the rear of East Road Close to the cemetery grounds of St Nicholas Church. A second sledgehammer was found in the vehicle.
No one at the shop was injured or assaulted during the robbery.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the Great Yarmouth area during that afternoon or saw the raiders after the vehicle was abandoned.
