Colleagues of a long-serving council worker marked his retirement by arranging for a special final commute to the office.

Clive Welham, 56,a finance worker for Suffolk County Council, arrived for his last day on the job on Friday in a special bus bearing his own name.

Passengers and co-workers who had travelled with Mr Welham on the 202 Shotley to Ipswich service arranged for the alterations to be made in recognition of his 40 years of service to the council.

Mr Welham said: “I felt very honoured - not only did they put on the bus they also dressed up for it too.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone - they’re a great bunch.”

Jan Hodges, who has taken the route with Mr Welham for several years, said: “He is such good company and great fun to get along with and there are quite a few of us on the bus who all come in together from Shotley and so we wanted to do something to mark the occasion.”

Ms Hodges thanked Ipswich Buses for arranging the special service.
