A coffee morning at the Chelmondiston Red Lion has raised a further £2,000 for the Shotley Pier renovation – with the project nearing the handing over of contracts.

Coffee and cakes sold to more than 200 people at the pub alongside special pier Christmas cards raised £2,000 for the cause.

The community led project features shares being sold to raise money for the renovation.

So far, 450 people have bought shares, with £127,000 having been raised from that.

The last conveyancing details are now being finalised, with an exchange of contracts set to take place soon.

Vice chairwoman of the Shotley pier Group, Sally Chicken, said: “The enthusiasm at the coffee morning was amazing.

“People are starting to offer their practical skills and we have commissioned several artists to imagine what the pier might look like later down the line.”
