SOARING temperatures saw tens of thousands of people visit the second day of the annual Suffolk Show today.

Visitor numbers for the two days were expected to reach around 80,000 by the close this evening.

The show was a magnificent spectacle of the agricultural and industrial wealth of the county.

Families flocked to the event, as the children were on their half term holiday, to be entertained by the variety on offer.

Animals were a main attraction again ranging from large Angus cows to ferrets, but the agility displays of the dogs proved a firm favourite.

Last night a Beatles tribute band took to the stage at the Suffolk Show to the delight of hundreds of spectators.

Described as the number one Beatles cover band, The Fab Beatles were the stars of the BBC's Battle of the Fantasy Band in 2001.

After a hard day's night the band were very pleased with the reception from the lively crowd that sang along to the songs of the original Fab Four.

People of all ages joined in to more than an hour of the Beatles greatest hits.

Band member Kev Day, 37, said: "It was a great gig as the crowd was right behind us singing along to the songs.

"We were really up for it as we love to play open air events.

"It was good to come to Ipswich and do something big as we had only played the small venue at Brannigans before."

This was the first time the Suffolk Show's programme continued into the evening and the extended bar and food stall opening hours were welcomed by the crowd on such a warm evening.

Suffolk Show Organiser Chris Bushby said: "The idea was to carry on the show into the evening if the weather was good enough. The band was part of the show so we were not encouraging people to come along just to see them.

The idea seems set to continue. "We are already trying to book a band for next year but I'm not going to say who it is yet," Mr Bushby added

Established in 1991, the Fab Beatles pride themselves on their attention to detail, authentically replicating both the sound and look of the worlds most enduring pop music phenomenon.

One of the members comes from London but the other three made the long trip from their hometown of Devon especially for the show.
