IPSWICH: A teenager was due to appear in court today after two gangs of young men clashed at Tower Ramparts Shopping Centre on Monday.

Diarra Dillon, of Downside Close, Ipswich, has been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

The 18-year-old also faces charges of possession of cannabis and obstructing a police officer in relation to an alleged incident on October 17.

Five other males aged between 15 and 20 have been also been arrested on suspicion of affray following the incident at Tower Ramparts and have now been released on police bail.

Officers were called to the top floor of the centre to deal with the incident, which shoppers said involved up to 20 teenagers outside Martins newsagents, near the Electric House bus station.

Although the two factions dispersed before officers could get to the scene six arrests were made at five different locations in Ipswich yesterday, a police spokeswoman said.

The first two suspects were apprehended at around 9.50am at an address in Ipswich. It is believed the 18-year-old and 20-year-old are related.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at 11.45am and a 16-year-old was also taken into custody just under an hour later.

At 6.40pm a 17-year-old male from Ipswich was arrested.

Dillon was taken into custody shortly after 4.30pm and charged last night.

Bottles were allegedly thrown during the fight which occurred at 2pm.
