ENGINEERS at the Sizewell A power plant have shut down a reactor after a cloud of steam was released into the air.
Police say the engineers have assured the public the steam, which was produced when the plant's Reactor 2 "tripped", was not radioactive.
Suffolk Constabulary received a report from a member of the public of a "bang" and a cloud of what appeared to be smoke emanating from the plant at about 7pm on Friday.
The reactor was safely shut down and there were no reports of any injuries in the incident.
