FIRE chiefs are today urging people to ensure smoke detectors are in working order. The warning follows a loft fire at an Ipswich home that was started by a naked flame.

FIRE chiefs are today urging people to ensure smoke detectors are in working order.

The warning follows a loft fire at an Ipswich home that was started by a naked flame.

Luckily nobody was injured in the fire but Carol Chambers, of the Raeburn Road home, feared it could have been much worse.

Sub Officer Simon Little, of the Suffolk Fire Service, said: "We would like to remind people that smoke detector batteries must be checked and replaced."
