A MEETING was today due to be held to lay the foundations for a public inquiry in to the multi-million pound SnOasis project.

Representatives from Mid-Suffolk District Council, developers Onslow Suffolk and the SnOasis Concern action group, were expected to attend the meeting, which will set the ball rolling for a full public inquiry which begins on January 23.

A spokesman for the council said: “It is the first in a series of meetings and will allow everyone to have a bit of an input and make sure everything is in place before the official procedure begins.”

All parties were expected to be outlining to the planning inspector some of the details of what their arguments for and against will be.

Plans for the £350 million winter sports complex on the outskirts of Great Blakenham have divided the community.

It is expected to create around 1,500 new jobs and would attract visitors from across the world, however campaigners fear that the area is unprepared to cope with development on such a large scale.

Today's meeting was being held at the Mid Suffolk District Council offices in Needham Market.
