AN AIR of sophistication is set to descend on Ipswich today with the arrival of one of pop's most elegant artists.

Sophie Ellis Bextor will take to the stage at the Regent tonight for a sell out performance of the songs that have made her a star.

She has been enjoying recent solo success with her debut album Read My Lips and the accompanying singles, Take Me Home and Murder on the Dancefloor, but her experience in the music business stems far beyond that.

Sophie took her first step into the industry when she was 16 and a friend invited her to join indie band theaudience .

The band eventually split but Sophie's interest in music had been sparked.

A collaboration with Spiller, which spawned Groovejet, the anthem of summer 2000, introduced her to the world as an artist in her own right.

The rest is history and she has worked diligently to produce the kind of music she wants to make and build a solid fan base at the same time.

She may be a Norwich City supporter with a penchant for yellow and green knickers but with the auditorium at the Regent set to be packed to capacity tonight, it doesn't look as if Ipswich will be holding it against her.

n Tonight's show starts at 7.30pm.
