PUPILS at Holywells High School in Ipswich have had a taste of Spain… literally!
A group of year ten students cooked up a three-course feast, as a mouth-watering addition to their studies for a new course in GCSE Spanish.
"They all really enjoyed it and tasted quite a few things they might not have eaten before, such as squid," said head of languages Danielle Shaw.
The students started studying Spanish this term, giving up their spare time to learn the language after school as an extra subject.
They are keen to learn about the country's culture and cuisine, so Wynne Reece, deputy headteacher at King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds, visited to share his passion for Spanish cuisine with them.
The pupils cooked tortilla as a starter, followed by paella in a giant dish, with ingredients including squid, saffron and prawns – and they topped it off with turon, a sweet chocolate dessert. They also made a non-alcoholic version of sangria to drink.
"They all had a taste, but they also took the food home so their parents could have some too," said Mrs Shaw.
