RABBITS and guinea pigs have been stolen from back gardens in the Woodbridge and Kesgrave area.

Suffolk police are now warning pet owners to be on the alert after the spate of thefts.

Since May 30, five incidents of theft where rabbits or guinea pigs have been taken have been reported to Woodbridge police.

In the most recent incident, two guinea pigs were taken from a secure hutch in the back garden of a property in Old Barrack Road, Woodbridge, sometime between 8.45pm last Thursday and 8.25am Friday.

At first, police thought that the pets had been taken by other animals such as foxes, but this has now been ruled out and officers are appealing for anyone with information about the thefts to contact them.

They are also urging pet owners to take precautions to safeguard small animals left in their gardens.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or know where the animals are now, is asked to contact Woodbridge police on 01473 383460.
