TWO special events are coming soon at Ipswich Film Theatre – a series of animation workshops for youngsters, and a course for adult film buffs.

During half-term, from May 27 to 30, children can try out a range of animation techniques, with a different theme each day.

The Tuesday session will look at big and small animations, while Wednesday's will give children the chance to make an animation of the 1969 moon landing. Thursday's theme is fantastic machines and Friday's is optical toys, with an extra session on instant animation.

Sessions run from 9.30am to 1.30pm, except on Friday when there are two shorter sessions, from 9.30am to 11am and 11am to 1.30pm.

The cost is £6 per session from Tuesday to Thursday, and £2 for each session on Friday.

There will be a grand premiere screening for animators, family and friends of all the week's work on Saturday, May 31 at 11am in Screen One.

All sessions are suitable for eight-year-olds and upwards, while Friday's sessions are also open to five to seven-year-olds accompanied by an adult.

For older film buffs, from June 3 there will be a six-week course on the theme Company Power, Personal Protest and Collective Action in the Movies, led by Mike Harwood, lecturer in creative writing and cultural studies.

Weekly sessions run from 7pm to 10pm, and the films screened on the course are Business As Usual, I'm Alright Jack, The Man in the White Suit, Riff Raff, Bread and Roses and Roger and Me.

The cost is £14 or £7 concessions, including a free ticket to a film of your choice and a documentation pack.
