IPSWICH School staff, students and parents gathered to celebrate another year of achievement.

Star of the show at the speech and prize-giving day was upper-sixth student Helen Burslem.

She entranced the Corn Exchange crowd with a violin solo from a piece by Massenet.

But Helen was just one of many success stories applauded by headmaster Ian Galbraith who recorded triumph on the sports field, in the classroom and on the stage.

Mr Galbraith also paid tribute to David Coe, whose retirement as chairman of the school governors marked the end of a 57-year association with the school.

Richard Risebrow, Mayor of Ipswich, handed out the prizes to the school's top students as parents made their hands sore with applause.

Fittingly, the event ended with a speech by Mr Coe, reflecting on his long relationship with Ipswich School.

He said: "Ipswich School produces remarkable results. I shall watch with interest from the sidelines as I know it will go forward."
