POLICE speed guns caught two motorists topping 100mph on the same stretch of the A14.

South-East Suffolk Magistrates heard Tim Wade, of Colchester, and Christian Stenderup, of Great Barton, were both caught on the eastbound carriageway at Sproughton.

Magistrates heard 59-year-old Stenderup clocked 104mph while Wade, 28, recorded 103mph.

Both men admitted speeding. Their cases were not linked in court.

Gareth Davies, prosecuting, told magistrates Stenderup was caught on May 26 and Wade on May 4.

He said both men told officers they had not realised how fast they were going.

Stenderup, who was not represented in court, told magistrates he was late for a meeting and was stupid to speed.

He was banned for six weeks, fined £300 and ordered to pay £35 costs.

Nyarumba Nota, defending Wade, said his client had accelerated after being stuck behind another car.

He said the acceleration was intended as a courtesy to following drivers and Wade did not intend to continue at that speed.

Mr Nota told magistrates Wade ran a small chain of pet stores throughout East Anglia and driving was essential to his business.

He asked them to consider alternatives to a disqualification.

But Wade was banned for three weeks. He was also fined and ordered to pay £35 costs.
