SUFFOLK school teacher Stephen Wood was caught speeding at 105mph on a dual carriageway and is now paying the price.

Wood was caught speeding near Sproughton and has been banned from driving for six weeks and told to pay £435.

The Stowmarket man of Dove Gardens was travelling on the A14 Eastbound carriageway in the direction of Felixstowe when a police officer saw Wood, measured the speed his Renault Megane was travelling and stopped him.

The 32-year-old, who represented himself at the South East Suffolk Magistrates Court, pleaded guilty to the charge of exceeding 70mph on a dual carriageway on Sunday, May 26.

He told the court that he had been speeding because he was in a rush to finish a project to be presented the next day at a job interview.

The father-of-two, who previously had a clean licence, said he had learnt his lesson about speeding and that disqualification from driving would affect his job and the opportunity to take his two young children on trips at weekends.

The court gave Mr Wood a six-week disqualification from driving and he was ordered to pay a £400 fine and £35 court costs.

At no point in the proceedings was it revealed which school in Ipswich Wood worked for and he declined to comment after the court case.
