GUITARIST Spencer Horton is backing singer Chesney Hawkes in his comeback bid – literally – by playing in his band!

Spencer, 27, of Felixstowe, has teamed up with 90s sensation to promote his new single.

Spencer, who last year played in the band of Boyzone frontman, Irish singing star and celebrity Ronan Keating, will be playing in Chesney's backing band throughout his UK tour.

The single Stay Away Baby Jane – due to be released later this month – will be Chesney's first in seven years.

He is best remembered as the fresh-faced star of the early 1990s when his smash-hit single The One and Only was one of only 13 records to spend more than five weeks at number one in the whole decade.

His fame was short lived though, but now he is trying to make a comeback and so far all the signs have been good with excellent media reviews of his gigs.

He has recorded an album of his own new songs in London and Los Angeles with producer Charlton Pettus, and a video for the single has been filmed in LA with director Rory Rooney.

Spencer, a former Kesgrave High School pupil, who has been studying for a higher degree at the Academy for Contemporary Music in Guildford, has made many TV appearances and toured with several bands.

He took up the guitar when he was 15 and showed a natural talent at an early stage. He has played in local band Armada for nearly 10 years, performing a mixture of classic and modern rock.
