FIREFIGHTERS were called to a site in Ipswich where three 25litre containers marked “harmful and flammable” had been spilt.

Three fire engines and two support units were called to Toller Road, Ipswich, at 3.20pm yesterday, after reports of the spill.

Karl Rolfe, assistant divisional officer, said “It looks like they've been dumped as they are just inside a gateway off the pavement.

“We are treating it as a chemical incident and our people are dressed in gas-tight suits to protect themselves.”

The area was cordoned off and a decontamination site was set up.

In Needham Market, firefighters were called to a chimney fire in Gypsy Lane at 7.40pm yesterday.

Elsewhere, crews spent almost 90 minutes extinguishing an undergrowth fire at Rendlesham Forest after being called at 1.15pm on Saturday.

Three hours later a crew from Ipswich went to Riverside Road to put out a small rubbish fire.
