Were your eyes on the sky this morning? Did you see a Second World War fighter plane over Ipswich?

Norman Lloyd, from St Elizabeth Hospice, was walking towards Portman Road when he heard the sounds of the British aircraft at around 10.30am.

He said: “I heard the sound and immediately knew it was a Spitfire - I looked up and saw the aircraft do, what looked like, two victory rolls.

“A helicopter was roughly 500m behind the Spitfire, and it seemed like it may have been following its trail.”

Spitfires are single-seat fighters which were used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

More than 20,000 were built during - they remain one of the most iconic aircraft of all time.
