A MAN is today recovering in hospital after becoming the second stab victim in Ipswich in the last three days.

The 40-year-old was taken to Ipswich hospital last night after he was assaulted in Crown Street, Ipswich. Police have since arrested a man in connection with the stabbing.

Emergency services were called at 8.41pm last night to the street in the centre of Ipswich where a man had been stabbed in the chest.

Upon arrival paramedics found the man was suffering from stab wounds to the abdomen. He was conscious and breathing but taken to Ipswich hospital. Police were expected to give an update on his condition later today.

A man was arrested by police and was due to be questioned today.

The incident is the second in Ipswich within the last three days.

A 38-year-old man was assaulted near Woodbridge Road just after midnight on Friday.

The incident happened on a footpath near a block of flats in Samuel Court.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both attacks to come forward to help with the investigation and urge anyone with information to call Ipswich CID on 01473 613500.

The incidents come against rising national concern about the increase in knife crime - a 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Hackney, east London, shortly before midnight on Saturday.
