INVESTIGATIONS are under way today after four people have been taken to hospital following a chemical incident at Stansted Airport.

Essex ambulance crews examined 17 people after a noxious gas was reported near the men's toilets in the main terminal shortly after 7am.

Those affected reported suffering from streaming eyes.

A spokeswoman for Essex Police said that a discarded personal protection spray canister - such as a CS gas spray - was a possible cause of the incident.

No flights were affected.
