ANSWERS to the Star's questions to the administrators at Ipswich Town have come in – from club chairman David Sheepshanks.

And he was only able to answer 20 of the 30 queries we asked at the club earlier this week and have left many of the crucial questions unanswered.

Crucial queries about the cost of the administration process lead by Nick Dargan were not touched upon.

Neither were there any answers about the likely outcome for creditors who are anxiously waiting to see how much they can expect to see of what the club owes them.

Most of the questions remaining unanswered were those directed straight at the administrators about the way they have approached their work at the club.

Mr Sheepshanks remains upbeat in his replies to the questions – remaining confident that the club will be able to emerge from the administration process.

A key point he made is that there have been no further staff redundancies since the administrators moved in last month.

Mr Sheepshanks said the club had made numerous attempts to buy the freehold of the ground – but the council had turned down its efforts.

Borough chief executive James Hehir said the council felt it was right to retain its ownership of the land to ensure it continued to be used as a centre for the whole community.

The Star understands that many councillors feel that the fact the council owns the land is a useful brake, effectively protecting the stadium for the future.

"If the worst were to happen and there was full administration, there have been occasions elsewhere in Britain where grounds have been sold for redevelopment and clubs have become homeless. Look at Brighton," one councillor said.

"By holding on to the freehold of the land we ensure the future of football at Portman Road – whoever is sitting in the boardroom!"
