TEN key questions relating to the controversial appointment of a new chief executive of Suffolk on up £220,000 have been posed to county chiefs by the Evening Star today.

As revealed in the Evening Star last week, Tory chiefs on Suffolk County Council have controversially offered 43-year-old Andrea Hill up to £70,000 more than current chief executive Mike More to take the top job.

Following concerns raised by members of the public and opposition politicians to the news, the Star has asked for more information about how the decision was made.

The call comes on the same day a Star web poll reveals close to 90 per cent of people believe a salary of up to £220,000 is too much for the new chief executive.

Out of a total of 712 votes, a massive 634 people (89pc) believed the figure was over the top with 78 people (11pc) thinking the big salary is justified.

Among the questions being asked is how the decision to increase the chief executive's pay band up to £220,000 was made.

Yesterday the Star revealed that an attempt to block Mrs Hill's appointment on the controversial salary will be made at a meeting later this month.

Labour politicians say they are not against the appointment of Mrs Hill but want her to be recruited on the same salary as current position-holder Mike More.

A vital vote on the issue is due to take place at a full meeting of Suffolk County Council on Thursday March 27.

The Ten Questions:

1. Who made the decision to appoint Andrea Hill and what decision was made on the salary package?

2. Was there any objection from any member of the panel to the salary package?

3. Did Mrs Hill make any salary, or salary package, demands?

4. Did the appointment panel discuss whether or not Mrs Hill would move to Suffolk as a condition of her job?

5. Do you know whether or not Mrs Hill will move to Suffolk from her home in Cambridge?

6. Did the panel ask whether or not Mrs Hill moved to Bedfordshire when she was chief executive there?

7. Did Andrea Hill previously apply to Suffolk County Council?

8. If so, what position was applied for and when?

9. Was she offered the job?

10. Was the job offer withdrawn and, if so, why?
