IPSWICH: A rail passenger has thanked staff at Ipswich station for providing hot drinks and shelter for freezing commuters in the early hours of this morning.

Mark Cooke, of Brooke Hall, was travelling back from a Christmas party in London last night.

Due to yesterday's snow-related travel chaos his 11.30pm train from Liverpool Street was delayed and didn't get to Ipswich until 2am.

When Mr. Cooke arrived he queued up to get a taxi but none turned up leaving him and a number of passengers standing in the freezing cold.

Mr Cooke said: “It was a dreadful time to be out, snowing and freezing cold but the kind staff at Ipswich station opened the doors to the train that was waiting at the station which I guess would have

been the first train this morning.

“They put on the heating and opened the buffet for all of us and provided free hot drinks.

“Eventually my friend's kind son picked us up at about 3am but I would like to say well done to National Express Ipswich Station.”
