Stoke High School – Ormiston Academy in Ipswich will reopen tomorrow (Thursday) after being forced to close today due to a burst water valve, it has announced.
The 703-pupil secondary school in Maidenhall Approach was left without hot water or heating, while there was also flooding in some areas of the school.
The decision to close the academy was taken before it was due to open and parents were informed, a spokesman for Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), which runs the school, confirmed.
Repair work was carried out during the day while staff assessed whether the academy could reopen on Thursday.
On Wednesday afternoon, the OAT spokesman said in a statement: “We are pleased to say that the academy will reopen tomorrow thanks to the hard work and dedication of staff.
“We reluctantly had to take the decision to close the academy today because of flooding because of a burst valve.
“We would like to thank staff, parents, and students for their patience.”
