Fans heading to the FA Cup 3rd round reply between Ipswich and Southampton at Portman Road tonight are unlikely to experience any extreme weather.

Strong gales and some heavy rain is expected overnight but it will not be until around 2am.

Phil Garner from forecasters Weatherquest said there would be a little bit of rain coming in through the evening.

“We’re not going to see much before 8pm,” he said. “The breeze picks up a little bit but the winds don’t come in until about 2am.

“The rain picks up through the night and there is a squally band of rain in the dawn period tomorrow and at the same time you have the strong winds in the area.

They are south-south westerly so they are likely to be as strong inland as they are on the coast.”

Mr Garner said gusts could reach as fast as 50 or 60mph overnight and could persist until around 7am.

Although the winds will then die down he said there could be fallen branches as a result of the gusts.
