SPICY, fruity and juicy beers will be on offer today as a popular beer festival kicks off in Stowmarket.

The annual Stowmarket Festival of Beer and Brewing is due to start today at the Museum of East Anglian Life in the town and continues for four days.

During the family-friendly event, in association with the Campaign for Real Ale, around 70 beers will be available to try as well as a large selection of ciders.

Patsy Cane, office manager at the museum, said: “We're really looking forward to it. There will be live music and so many different ales so it will be quite exciting.

“It's such a good atmosphere and we can still enjoy it even though we're working and we'll have a few board games like a huge noughts-and-crosses board.

“There are beers called Rougham Ready, the Bees Knees and much more. There is an espresso, a dark beer with distinctive and strong coffee flavours.

“There will be chocolate tasting beer, fruity and spicy beers - in fact something for everyone and the white beers are a good substitute for people who like lager.”

The festival is due to open today from 6pm to 11pm, on Friday from midday to 11pm, Saturday 11am to 11pm and Sunday from midday to 3pm. For more information visit 01449 612229.
