The museum’s volunteers were recently highly commended at the SHARE Museums Volunteer Awards for their outstanding upkeep of the garden.

An oasis in the heart of Stowmarket, the half acre walled Victorian kitchen garden has been restored and replanted since 2012.

Showcasing many heritage vegetable varieties as well as trained fruit trees and herb bed, it boasts a renovated greenhouse, potting shed and conservatory.

The National Garden Scheme supports nursing and caring charities throughout the UK by opening thousands of gardens, many of which are not normally open to the public.

Entry is £3 per person (children free) with money raised going to the NGS’s chosen charities.
