DEVELOPERS have been given the go-ahead for a £25 million redevelopment of a former industrial site to create 182 riverside apartments and new offices.

The project will be one of the biggest in the centre of Stowmarket for years and is sparking hopes of a major boost for the local economy.

Mid Suffolk district councillors yesterday approved the outline planning application, which centres on an unused part of the Atco Qualcast Bosch site at Gipping Way.

Once the site has been cleared it would be redeveloped with 182 flats either side of the river across 7.5 acres, offices, parking, new landscaping and a footpath and cycle track.

Councillors voted in favour of the proposals in principle but there will still be further hurdles for the developers to overcome before work can start, including submitted a detailed applications on the finer details of the development.
