String of crashes on Suffolk's roads

MOTORISTS were counting their lucky stars today after a string of accidents on Suffolk roads.

Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt in the series of crashes, which started at about at 10am on Saturday morning.

MOTORISTS were counting their lucky stars today after a string of accidents on Suffolk roads.

Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt in the series of crashes, which started at about at 10am on Saturday morning.

Huge tailbacks of traffic built up on the A14 in Suffolk after a road smash involved up to six vehicles.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway near Needham Market, at around 11am on Saturday.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance landed at the scene and airlifted an elderly man to hospital on a stretcher.

Traffic also built up on the Ipswich-bound section of the dual carriageway as emergency services dealt with the accident aftermath.

Earlier, emergency services were called to a road crash involving three vehicles on a Suffolk road.

The cars involved in the crash were a blue Renault a blue Vauxhall Astra and a green Discovery TDI.

Police and ambulance crews headed to the scene of the smash on the A140 at Brome after a call shortly before 10am.

At 10.30am a female driver suffered whiplash after single vehicle accident at Hall Road, Kesgrave.

And yesterday at about 3.30pm, a Nissan car overturned on the westbound carriageway of the A14 at Nacton. The incident happened between the Shell garage and the Orwell Bridge.

Emergency services were called but two women had managed to crawl out of the wreckage by the time they arrived.

Hours later at the A14 near Ipswich's Asda store, a car crashed into a lamppost.

Nobody was injured in the accident which happened at about 5pm.

And at 6.15pm, emergency services were called to a head-on collision at Henham, on the Ipswich side of the Wangford bypass.

Nobody was injured in the smash which involved a Ford Escort and a Volkswagen car.
