FASHION and fund-raising often go hand in hand and one Suffolk hairdresser has taken St Elizabeth's Hospice to heart for her latest catwalk venture.

Having already raised money for charity through abseiling, sky diving and the Race for Life, Zoe Meyer, from Felixstowe, decided to take it upon herself to organise an entire night of fund-raising.

Each year Zoe has taken part in a fashion show or competition of some sort and so, when moving to Lewis Hair Team in March, wanted to try the whole shebang.

“I'd never organised a whole event before, only parts of them, so I decided to give it a go. The last show I did was Cops on the Catwalk but I only did the hair for that.”

Zoe was also involved in a show at London's Café de Paris in Leicester Square last year.

For her new venture, Zoe says she has had full support from boss Lisa Beecroft, who owns the Lewis salon and who is also covering the costs of the hair make-overs so Zoe and her team can really go to town with creating new looks, both on the night and in preparing the model's locks before their catwalk appearances.

And of the Hospice, Zoe says: “We've adopted each other really. One chap at Lewis had done work for them before, so I got in touch and then got a bit addicted to the idea of the fashion show.”

Sponsored by John Grose and CBA Law, the Hair and Clothes Show is being staged next month at Fire and Ice nightclub, in Ipswich, and promises a night full of fun for those attending. Not only will there be catwalk shows and hairdressing demonstrations, but two Strictly Come Dancing stars will be performing, along with a local police and fireman Full Monty to get the ladies into a frenzy.

Also on the cards is an Ann Summers party to keep visitors in the Ice bar entertained, and the £6 ticket price (all the seated £10 tickets have sold out) also entitles each person to a free cocktail and goody bag.

Fashion stores taking part include ladies boutiques Aura and Hardwear, whose outfits can bee seen here in the form of a glittery green striped cowl-necked sweater and jeans combo, and printed green and black tunic dress.

Girls Love Roses will be showing off outfits from their new range, including this black cocktail number by Sonia Fortuna.

GAP will be showing men's and women's wear such as these two trouser, coat and jumper combinations, and Glanville Menswear will provide designer togs including the likes of D&G and Paul Smith, as seen here with this casual, striped jacket and ripped jeans look.

But as well as having a good time, the main aim of the evening, according to Zoe, is to raise £10,000 for the St Elizabeth's Hospice, also based in Ipswich. And it costs £5,000 a day just to run the hospice, according to press officer Patsy Johnson, who works for the charity. “We get a grant from the PCT but the rest is from charitable events such as this.

“We love the idea of the fashion show as it's a one-off and so different from other things we've done. It's about getting younger people involved with the Hospice. It'll be a fantastic night where people can walk away with something but know they have given something back to the charity at the same time.”

Draw prizes up for grabs include a mini cruise, a Mazda car, a night at Ufford Park Hotel, a make-over, a photo shoot with Bailey's Photography, and a year's free membership to the new Vivo Life gym (to be opened at Cardinal Lofts in December), among others.

The Hair and Clothes Show for St Elizabeth's Hospice is at Fire and Ice on November 26. Doors will open at 7pm to the Ice bar and after the show, the club will stay open until 2am. Tickets are £6 and are available from all the fashion stores involved, as well as Fire and Ice and Lewis Hair Team at 16 Dogs Head Street, Ipswich. Call 01473 256438.
