The day featured youngsters and families taking part in a five-a-side football tournament, enjoying a picnic in the park, listening to stories and arts and craft activities throughout the day.

The day was organised as one of hundreds of Great Get Together events across the country in memory of former MP Jo Cox, who was killed on June 16 last year.

A spokesman from Gainsborough Library said: “The weekend’s events were very popular with nearly 30 children enjoying the five-a-side football and over 100 people taking part in activities during the day on Saturday. They were also able to witness the flypast on its way to the Queen’s birthday celebrations.

“Lots of parents came along and read books with their children and some older children read stories to the other children.”
