SUFFOLK rock band Rosalita have been hailed as a name to look out for after they won a major talent search competition.

The band, who hail from Felixstowe and Hadleigh, were crowned the winners of a major music talent showcase held in Norwich on Sunday.

The event, called Next Big Thing was organised by Archant, the publisher of the Evening Star, and was supported by the company's newspapers in Suffolk and Norfolk.

After record entry numbers of almost 140 soloists and bands entered the competition, now in its third year, Rosalita were among just eight semi-finalists who made it through to Sunday's grand final at the Students Union at Norwich's University of East Anglia.

Kris Andrew, lead singer of Rosalita, said: “We've been in contests before, thought we'd played well but never won. To win Next Big Thing is just amazing.”

Rosalita have won a package of prizes including music equipment, legal advice, a single record deal, HMV signing session, a UEA or Norwich Waterfront support slot, and studio time. The prizes came from the contest's supporters, NR One Records, Purple Studios, Steeles Lawyers, Soundcontrol, UEA, HMV and Anglia Drum Centre.
