Twelve volunteers joined event organiser Charles Croydon and Ipswich Borough Council wildlife and education rangers Sam Chamberlin and Mathew Garnham to conduct a beach clean along the foreshore of Orwell Country Park as part of the Great British Beach Clean.

Two-thirds of the total items found were plastic.

Sam Chamberlin said: “I would like to thank the organisers and volunteers for their efforts.

“This is a very popular site for visitors and to see the amount of litter removed from this area of the Country Park is staggering.”

On the same day a beach clean at Piper’s Vale saw 30 volunteers remove 20 bags of litter and five buckets of glass from the foreshore.

The Great British Beach Clean was created by the Marine Conservation Society and takes place every September across the UK.
