A SUFFOLK charity has today won a massive £1.7million government grant which is set to benefit hundreds of community groups and voluntary organisations.

The Suffolk Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of others, has been awarded one of the government's new Grassroots grants.

The money will be distributed in amounts ranging from £250 to £5,000 to hundreds of small voluntary and community groups, with incomes of less than £20,000 per year.

Stephen Singleton, chief executive of The Suffolk Foundation, said: “This is good news for the Foundation and great news for Suffolk. For the next three years we will be allocating at least £300,000 per year to all sorts of different projects.”
