A SUFFOLK man and his daughter have appeared in court accused of incest.

Graham Spink, 48, and his daughter Kerry, 24, both of Cleveland Road, Lowestoft, are alleged to have had a sexual relationship with each other resulting in the birth of a baby earlier this year.

The couple have each denied two offences of having sexual intercourse with each other knowing they were father and daughter between December 2000 and May last year.

Anthony Bate, prosecuting at Ipswich Crown Court, alleged that the couple knew they were father and daughter when they engaged in a consensual sexual relationship.

He said that Kerry Spink's mother had been married to Graham Spink in 1974 and had given birth to Kerry in September 1977.

Graham Spink was named as the baby's father when her birth was registered and Kerry's mother maintained that Graham Spink was Kerry's father.

Mr Bate said that although Graham Spink had initially disputed being Kerry's father he had contact with her from the age of two and told her mother that he wanted to see "his daughter".

Kerry had also called Graham Spink "dad".

Mr Bate said that DNA tests showed that Kerry Spink was 110,000 times more likely to be the daughter of Graham Spink than an unknown male.

Mr Bate said that Kerry's mother had a sexual relationship with Graham Spink's brother Richard but DNA tests had showed he was not Kerry's father.

Graham Spink had gone on to have four more children with another woman and Kerry had gone to live with them when she was 16.

Graham Spink's wife had moved out after suspecting that something was going on between her husband and Kerry.

Graham Spink and Kerry Spink had moved to Lowestoft in 1997 and Kerry Spink had given birth to Graham Spink's daughter earlier this year.

They were both named as the child's parents when they registered the birth.

After their arrest Graham Spink said he thought his brother Richard was Kerry's father. He admitted having a sexual relationship with Kerry by late 2000.

Kerry Spink told police that she regarded Graham Spink's brother Richard as her father and could not accept that Graham Spink was her father.

The trial continues.
