FIREFIGHTERS from Suffolk helped tackle a blaze in a thatched cottage today.

Eight appliances, including one from Hadleigh and one from Nayland, were sent to Ellis Road in Boxted, Essex shortly before 3pm.

They were confronted with a two-storey cottage, measuring 15m by 5m, the roof of which was well alight.

Crews used two hose reels and four sets of breathing apparatus to tackle the fire, which was eventually brought under control by 6.36pm.
