BACK in 1980 Moscow hosted the Olympic Games, John Lennon was murdered in New York, and Mac Speake ran his first London Marathon.

An incredible 26 years later the Suffolk doctor will be pounding the capital's streets again and by the end of tomorrow Mac will be one of only 28 people in the world to have run the course every year since it began.

The 64-year-old will be joined by 295 other dedicated runners from Suffolk who have trained for months to prepare for the challenge as well as to raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

Dr Speake said: “I am proud of my achievement, I am kind of addicted to running it now.

“Every year I see so many inspiring stories of people who run it despite amazing personal and physical problems and I take my hat off to them.

“It has become a great institution.”
