Parts of the region could see some showers this morning, as a band of rain moves eastwards across the country.

Forecasters said outbreaks of showery rain could affect much of Essex, with some heavier downpours possible.

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said most places would have a generally dry day, though some places are expected to start off with rain.

“One or two thundery showers across East Anglia and the south east should clear quickly and most places won’t see them anyway,” he added.

The rain is expected to clear later this morning when it should become drier with some sunny spells in Suffolk and Essex.

Cloudier conditions are forecast for the afternoon before clearing again to make way for a fine evening.

Mr Deakin said that while daytime temperatures may ”squeak into the low 20s” there would be a “chilly night” with some places seeing a touch of frost – with cold overnight temperatures expected to be a feature for the rest of the week.

Norwich-based Weatherquest said this morning’s showery outbreaks will gradually clear into the North Sea.

Maximum temperatures in Suffolk and Essex are expected to be between 18-21C.
