CLUTCHING his four-leaf clover, tax consultant Julian Bloom held his nerve to bag £32,000 in an episode of the nation's favourite TV game show.

But the 35-year-old kept a promise made before his appearance on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and handed over a quarter of the cash to the "phone friend" who helped him secure the sizeable sum.

It was his final lifeline in the mission for £1 million and Julian, only £16,000 richer, had no idea which TV show featured the Ponderosa ranch – and he was not prepared to risk a guess despite the presence of his lucky clover.

So, it was only after a frantic telephone call to a friend, Andy Parrott, of London, that he was able to take £32,000 back to wife Lana and children, Jordan, six, and Louie, five, at their home in Suffolk.

He correctly picked Answer A – Bonanza – but Julian said Andy had £8,000 worth of reasons to get it right.

"When I had entered the competition to go on to the show, I said if my phone friend helped me to get a question right, I would give him half them the money that my total had increased by," he said.

"He didn't seem sure at first but then he got it and said he was 100% sure so I went with it. He earned his money without a shadow of a doubt – although if he had got it wrong I'm not sure what would have happened to our relationship."

The married father-of-two was pleased with his performance on the game show and, as he announced on air, would hopefully be putting the money towards buying the house next door to his family's flat in north Ipswich.
