MORE rain is set to hit the county this week following a torrential downpour this weekend which resulted in flood alerts and road closures.
Rivers across the county were swollen by the rain which fell almost constantly from yesterday lunchtime to early this afternoon.
During the 36 hours from midnight Friday/Saturday until noon today, 16.6 millimetres of rain fell at Wattisham weather station – nearly half the monthly average for April.
Dan Holley from Weatherquest said that while tomorrow should be fine, another pulse of rain is likely to move in on Tuesday and there was likely to be rain on Wednesday. Later in the week the rain may ease off but there is no immediate prospect of warm, dry weather.
The changeable weather today is a far cry from a year ago, when the country joined in the Royal wedding celebrations in glorious sunshine.
