MURDER, greed and corruption are coming to Suffolk in an adaptation of PD James', Death in Holy Orders.

The two-part drama about a killer in the sacred portals of an esteemed theological college is being filmed by the BBC.

The drama will be shot in various East Anglian locations including Suffolk where the fictional college is located.

Martin Shaw will be taking over the role previously played by Roy Marsden as Commander Adam Dalgliesh, the tale's top detective.

As Commander Dalgliesh, Shaw, whose recent television successes include Judge John Deed and A&E, is set to investigate a death at St Anselm's, the theological college.

Situated in an isolated, windswept outpost on the Suffolk cliffs it is under threat from elitism and archaic practices. Therefore when a young novice priest dies in mysterious circumstances, his father is convinced the college authorities have glossed over the truth to avoid a scandal which would close the school.

Martin, who lives in the region, will be joined by an impressive supporting cast when shooting of the drama begins.

Robert Hardy, star of The Lost World and who will soon feature as Cornelius Fudge in the latest Harry Potter film, plays Father Martin, an old friend of Dalgliesh. Olivier award-winning actress Janie Dee is Emma Lavenham, the glamorous tutor who arouses Dalgliesh's attention.

Celebrated theatre actor Alan Howard, Drop The Dead Donkey's Jeff Rawle and Neighbours' Jesse Spencer also star.

Jane Tranter, controller of drama commissioning at the BBC said: "PD James is one of the UK's foremost crime writers and we are delighted to be able to bring her superb detective work to the BBC."

Death In Holy Orders will be filmed over eight weeks in Suffolk as well as in Norfolk and Colchester.
