Suffolk New College is backing a new government scheme which aims to help adults back into education.
The new education policy is set to be introduced next month as a trial, and will allow adults aged 19 and over – who earn less than £15,736.50 – to gain financial support to study.
For those who fit the criteria, it could mean they can access learning for free.
Associate principal at Suffolk New College, Mary Gleave, said: “As a college, we support the idea of removing any barriers to learning.
“This news will hopefully encourage 19+ learners who are earning minimum wages to use this window to gain more skills to improve their future career choices.
“Over the past three years, we have seen a slow decline nationally in terms of the amount of adult learners who are studying on further education courses. This policy change could well be the beginning of a reverse in this trend.”
