A suspected thief left a trail of badly-damaged cars and debris strewn across an Ipswich residential road.
People living in Kildare Avenue say they have been dealt a costly blow by yesterday’s early morning destruction derby.
Kelly Quigley, 41, whose car was written-off by the driver, said she had been “mortified” by the loss of her vehicle.“I’m a single parent of four children, I work hard every day and that car was my lifeline,” she added.“I’ve not been able to take my children to school, I’ve not been able to go to work, and I don’t know what’s going to happen with the insurance.”
Michael Livermore, who lives a few doors down, lost two vehicles in the wrecking spree, including a van he relies on for work.
The 37-year-old mobile mechanic said he was awoken to the sound of wheel spinning, followed by a small impact and then a “massive impact”.
“By the time I looked through the window I saw my other half’s car alarm going off, got some clothes on and cane outside, the person driving the car had already done a runner,” he added.
“It’s absolutely disgusting that people can do this and still feel the need to just disappear and try and hide away from their actions.”
Mr Livermore, who should be celebrating his 38th birthday tomorrow, said the effect on his livelihood would be “absolutely massive” as he has been left with a work vehicle that has been deemed unsafe and excess insurance amounting to £1,000.
He said felt “angry, sick and frustrated” by what had happened.
Other neighbours are said to have suffered similar collisions in recent months. Mr Livermore said people were appealing to the council to get more off road parking for residents to prevent it happening again.
Suffolk police confirmed it received reports of the collisions shortly after 1.30am yesterday.
“A silver Vauxhall Zafira collided with four parked cars in Kildare Avenue and one parked car in Donegal Road,” a spokesman added. “Officers believe the Vauxhall Zafira was stolen following a burglary at a property in Kildare Road.”
“Officers attended the scene after the collision and attempted to track the offender but were unsuccessful. Investigations into the incident are continuing.”
